How We Got Started

What about us – the parents? Where can I turn? Who can I talk to? What do I do? Why me?.........We know. We were there! Embarrassed, thinking it was our fault, keeping the secret to ourselves.… feeling overwhelmed, ashamed, and alone, and searching for answers.

Addiction is a family disease. As a parent of a child/adult child with this disease, it can make you crazy with anxiety, fear, anger, frustration, and a feeling of utter hopelessness and despair. The fear of losing your child to an overdose can utterly consume you. Sadly, some of us do lose our children. Your grandchildren can become innocent victims, caught up in the chaos as well ……. It all seems SO overwhelming.

There are meetings, rehabs, government programs, and resources for the person with the disease of addiction, but what about us – the parents? Where can we go?

That is why we started The Addict’s Parents United in 2015 -- to create a safe place for parents to come together and get the support they need.

What We Offer

The Addict’s Parents United has three Closed Facebook Support Groups. In these closed groups, everyone is screened for admission to each group, so we can ensure a safe place for members to share and interact privately with other parents that truly understand. Whether you have a child/adult child with the disease of addiction, you’re raising grandchildren due to this disease, or you have lost a child to this disease, we have a support group just for you.

We also host a Closed Support group meeting weekly on zoom for our TAPU’s Main Closed Support group, along with other sponsored programs for the members.

No matter who you are, you can follow us on The Addict’s Parents United Community page, where we share news, events, and articles regarding substance use disorder.

We offer a Public Group that anyone can join at TAPU Alliance. We post and interact on news, bills, events, and advocacy across the country.

We have resources and reading references in the files section of our closed group pages to help you understand this disease.
